SO tonight is the show. I've been watching some awesome vids by Precious Chong's "Sex And The Single Parent", and this video below is hilarious.
Anyway, everyone who is coming down for the block party, drop by for the show.
Lucy Gervais is a Toronto-born queer comedian with sharp wit and undeniable stage presence. Despite being a comedian for less than two years, she has made great strides in her act and is one of the hardest working new comics in Toronto. Her style is energetic while still maintaining a dry cynicism, and she's never afraid to go off-the cuff. She has opened for headliners such as Sam Tripoli and Dean Del Rey. She also feels weird about writing this bio. Do I sound full of myself? Let her know on Twitter at @cutelosers
Precious Chong just finished competing in this year’s Boston Comedy Festival and headlined the 2013 NXNE Festival in Toronto and has done stand-up in Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles at Yuk Yuk’s, What’s Up Tiger Lily, The Comedy Store, Flappers and pretty much anywhere else she can get some stage time and child care. She has an 10 year old son, Jack, and talks about the perils of parenting on her weekly podcast and web sketch series “Sex and the Single Parent” with fellow comedian Melissa Story . They have a web series with the same name that has over a million hits on Funny or Die. She recently finished shooting the feature film “God and Country” and can be seen in “Playing it Cool” starring Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan. Other film and t.v. credits include Christie on HBO Canada’s Living in Your Car, Flashpoint, Against the Wall, Amelia, LA Confidential, and Pearl Harbor. Her most recent solo show “Precious like the Adjective”, directed by Phil Luzi, was part of the inaugural Soulo Show Festival in Toronto this year. Her short film “Chinatown”, directed by Canadian Comedy Award Winner Sandra Battaglini, premiered this November at The Female Eye Film Festival and at the New Hampshire Film Festival. Her dad is counter culture icon, Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong. She also walks on stilts.
Jhanelle Dennis was born in Jamaica and raised in Toronto
(Scarborough). An only child raised by a single mom, she has 2+
decades of well-honed selfishness & passive aggression under her belt.
Jhanelle has opened for Bert Kreischer, currently runs/hosts a weekly
comedy open mic in Kensington Market, is a member of the new comedy
collective "Runnin' At The Mouth", & has been making a splash as a
newcomer to the Toronto comedy scene. Her mom still makes her lunches.
Amil Niazi is a writer/comedian/hologram who one day hopes to become the world's first married contestant on the Bachelorette.
I want all of you to get to know our featured comics for tomorrow.... and as such, I had them draft up profiles.
Our first comic profile: Paula Blackman!
"Paula Blackman is a major standup baby, but isn't good at anything else so, whatever.
Who even cares? Don't worry, she doesn't worry about everything all the time, so why should you?"
Tomorrow is the big day. Which day is it? Well, Femme Com is happening on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Coalition Lounge (282 Augusta Street in Kensington Market)
It's an all girl comedy show at Coaltion, and it's also a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada (I'm missing the CF walk at the Toronto Zoo for the first time in 6 years, but I still want to help out, so here it is!)
Doors at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. $5.00 suggested entry donation (though obviously more accepted).
I will be there hosting the crap out of this show.
Headliner: Precious Chong
Also, it's the first pedestrian Sunday of the year in Kensington Market, y'all should just make a whole day out of this ;)
